Big win for North Stars in Wilcox

Oct 17, 2024 | 6:53 AM

The Battlefords North Stars got redemption last night against the Notre Dame Hounds, beating them 6-1 at the Duncan McNeil Arena in Wilcox, SK.

It was an explosive first period for the North Stars as they scored four goals and held Notre Dame to none to start off the game.

The first goal came from captain Jackson Allan five minutes into the game to give the team a 1-0 lead.

Following that was a power play goal from Elijah Anderson that was assisted by Rylan Williams and Gavin Granger, extending the lead to 2-0.

Then the North Stars found the back of the net two more times from Anthony Campbell and Colton Getzlaff to go up 4-0 and end off the period.

For the second period, the North Stars slowed down on the goal scoring but still kept their foot on the gas, controlling the neutral zone and playing strong defensively.

Notre Dame had tons of chances to score early on in the period, but Battlefords goaltender Justen Maric made some miraculous saves that kept the momentum in the North Stars’ favour.

The Hounds eventually did score in the final minute of the second with a goal from Bexson Fox to make it 4-1.

But the North Stars answered right back, striking the nylon in the final five seconds of the period, coming from Anthony Campbell, for his second of the night, assisted by Nikita Ivashchenko to increase the lead to 5-1.

In the final period, the North Stars continued to dominate and found the back of the net once more, this time from Treycen Wuttunee to seal the deal 6-1 and win the game.

The North Stars out shot the Hounds 35 to 32, went 1/5 on the power play and stopped Notre Dame all four times on the penalty kill.

Justen Maric was very impressive in his return to the North Stars, stopping 31 out of 32 shots, while making some huge saves in the process.

The North Stars face off against the Hounds again Thursday night at the Duncan McNeil Arena.
