Lloydminster wireline company fined $55K for workplace injury

A wireline company was fined $55,000 on Sept. 23 in Lloydminster Provincial Court in connection to a serious workplace safety incident.

Summit Wireline Inc., based out of Lloydminster, pleaded guilty to one violation of The Occupational Health and Safety Regulations after it failed to ensure that the workplace was ‘sufficiently and competently supervised.’

The accident happened on Aug. 16, 2022, when a worker sustained serious injuries when a disc was expelled from a pressurized setting tool, near Waseca, Saskatchewan.

According to the release, the total of $55,000 included a fine of $39,285.71 and a surcharge of $15,714.29. The court withdrew two other charges.
