Nomination packages available for potential candidates

Sep 9, 2024 | 12:06 PM

Looking to get into local politics?

It’s time to get your documentation together. Nomination packages are now available on the City of North Battleford website for both mayoral and councillor hopefuls.

According to a news release, the nomination period starts in about two weeks beginning September 25 and will run to October 9. Within the packages are checklists to help candidates stay organized to keep track of items to be sent to the returning officer.

All potential candidates are now required to get Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Vulnerable Sector (VS) Check done and will be included in the package. If a candidate has a record, it will not impact their ability to run.

For those interested in being candidates, they are also encouraged to come out to information sessions which will be hosted by Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association (SUMA), and the City of North Battleford to learn how to be a candidate.

The first will take place from September 11 from 6:30-8 p.m., for a SUMA Municipal Governance 101 Webinar.

The next will be a SUMA Governance Webinar for Cities on September 19 from 6:30-7:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, the first information session will take place on September 12 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. and will be held at the North Battleford Public Library. The second will be held on Zoom September 17 from 4:30-6:30 p.m.
