UPAR updates underway

The city of North Battleford is looking at a change to its paving plans.

“I understand this was a recommendation from our contractors on this project,” said Candace Toma, public and intergovernmental relations coordinator, referring to the west side area and includes 17th and 18th Avenue along with Bowers Drive, which also had fire hydrants and manhole replacements put in.

“Looking to have roads paved twice to ensure that the overlay is completely filling those potholes…that are currently impacting roads.”

Toma explained it would be a thin layer at first and then the “overlay would create a bit of our better surface for our motorists.”

During the bi-weekly underground pipe and asphalt replacement levy (UPAR) update, the city said around the Access Communicans Centre, specifically in the 19th Avenue and 103 Street area will see the installation of a storm sewer built.

“It should be completed by end of week and again, all these timelines – best of our ability – given current information that we have, but they could of course be modified depending upon a number of different circumstances,” she said.

Following the installation, concrete work will begin before paving takes place in a few weeks.

Meanwhile, milling on 101st Street is complete and concrete work is taking place this week. Paving will get underway next week. Moving on toto other projects, Toma said that the milling work is completed on 19th Avenue and underground will begin around the end of the month.

“This work may be conscientiously delayed until…to start after the Labour Day weekend to allow that Labour Day weekend traffic,” she said, adding concrete work will begin afterwards.

Another major project in the works involves the Parsons Industrial Park.

“We’re expecting road repairs for Thatcher Avenue to start in September, drainage improvements, we anticipate those starting late September,” Toma said.

In addition to work on Thatcher, Holstein Street and Marquis Avenue will also have work completed in September.

“That includes the pulverization of the road with drainage improvement set for late September,” she said.

Territorial Drive will also see a facelift with resurfacing between Highway 16 and Airport Road. The project will begin after Labour Day weekend.

“Of course we’ll have some delays in terms of some traffic, but the long game is important with this one because we’ve got some…exciting resurfacing work set for that.”

Due to the upcoming construction, the city will be working with the contractors to ensure that issues like garbage or recycling collection – though there may be issues with placement of bins in front of homes with UPAR work, they will be placed in a location when trucks may have access.

“Empty them and then they will move them back. Those bins will have labels on them to ensure they get back to the appropriate address,” she said, noting if they do get mixed up, there is a tag on them.

“You can always call into the city to make sure – that you’re making sure that you have the appropriate bins back for your property.”
