Driver charged after breaching N.B. parade barricade

Aug 14, 2024 | 3:45 PM

A woman has been arrested after driving nose-to-nose with a marked police vehicle tasked with leading the parade for Northwest Territorial Days on Tuesday evening.

The incident happened when the driver breached barricades as the participants made their way down 101 Street. After stopping the vehicle, police discovered the driver was impaired, seized a bong and charged the driver with one count of operation of a conveyance while impaired by drug.

In a press release, Sgt. Chris Stephens of the Battlefords RCMP said it could have been dangerous.

“It’s very lucky that when she breached the barricade and encountered police officers, she didn’t strike any civilian vehicles or floats, parade participants, or spook the horses that were right behind our police vehicle. I’m happy to report, however, that after the arrest, the parade was able to continue on as planned and was enjoyed by hundreds of spectators.”

The vehicle has been impounded and the woman will appear in North Battleford Provincial Court in November.
