RCMP use drone to find stolen truck near Big River

Aug 2, 2024 | 5:39 PM

RCMP officers are making good use of remotely piloted aircraft (drones) to fight crime and two days ago, a drone helped the Warrant Enforcement Suppression Team track down a stolen truck that had refused to stop.

WEST officers were in Ahtahkakoop on July 30 on an un-related investigation when they saw a vehicle that had been reported stolen in Big River earlier the same day.

Two people in were inside the vehicle at the time.

When officers activated emergency lights to stop the vehicle, the driver fled at high speeds, nearly hitting the police vehicle and drove west on Highway 790.

As they followed, the suspect vehicle began to slow down and the officers saw the driver and passenger changed places before the struck sped up and headed towards Big River.

They followed a lower rate of speed but saw the truck turn down a dirt trail.

At this point, the drone was deployed and caught the stolen truck as it was driving towards a wooded area.

Ahtahkakoop detachment members on ATVs were called into to help.

They found a woman walking in a nearby field and arrested her. The stolen truck was later found abandoned near Whitefish First Nation having sustained considerable damage.

Givanna Ratt, age 26, of Ahtahkakoop is charged with robbery, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, fleeing from police and driving while prohibited. She will appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court on August 6.

WEST is still looking for the second suspect, 31-year-old Jordan Peterson who is charged with fleeing from police and possession of property obtained by crime, less than $5,000.

Jordan Peterson is wanted by RCMP. (submitted/RCMP)

Peterson is about 5’10” tall and weighs about 200 pounds, has brown hair and green eyes.

He also has multiple word and letter tattoos on his hands and diamond shapes on his left forearm.

The public is asked to report sightings of Jordan Peterson to police but do not approach him.

You can reach your local RCMP detachment by dialing 310-RCMP and information can be submitted anonymously by contacting Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or www.saskcrimestoppers.com.
