Something as simple as sending a text or a phone call might not be so simple for some cell phone users.

SaskTel is experiencing some “intermittent issues,” impacting calls and texts.

Greg Jacobs, an external communications manager with SaskTel spoke with 980 CJME about the issue.

“We’re experiencing some intermittent calling and texting issues on the wireless network serving the southern portion of the province,” he said.

“Some customers may have noticed that they’re having a difficult time making a wireless phone call or sending a text message. This is something that our technicians are investigating right now and are working to resolve the (problem) as quickly as possible.”

Jacobs shares a tip for anyone running into this problem.

“We would encourage people to turn their wireless device into airplane mode, wait a few seconds and then turn airplane mode off as this should resolve it,” he said. “They can also continue to use any sort of data messaging app like iMessage, Facetime or WhatsApp while we work to continue to resolve the issue.”

SaskTel became aware of the issue around 8:00 a.m. Tuesday.

Jacobs said anywhere south of Saskatoon may notice the issue.

“We would say south of Saskatoon and that region (is being impacted),” he said. “But again, it’s an intermittent issue. Most customers won’t even know that there’s anything going on.”

SaskTel crews are currently investigating what caused the glitch and are working to get everything back to normal.

Jacobs couldn’t provide a timeline but said the problem is not likely to last days.
