Saskatchewan RCMP may be making some headway investigating the death of Joanne Wolfe-Lafonde, who was killed in Muskeg Lake in 2019.

The force’s Historical Case Unit (HCU) is warning the public if an increase police presence in the community for several days.

HCU investigators said some people have come forward with information.

“Significant advancements in these types of investigations would not be possible without the help of witnesses and community members coming forward,” says Cpl. Tanya Gordon of the HCU.

Wolfe-Lafone was found dead outside her home on January 13, 2019, and police said it was suspicious.

She was also the mother of Chief Kelly Wolfe, who led the community then and is still chief according to their website.

The HCU has since taken over the investigation from the Major Crimes Unit. The HCU has the job of trying to close all old unsolved murders, suspicious deaths, missing persons and found but unidentified human remains.
