Town makes plans for annual summer parade

May 4, 2024 | 9:00 AM

The Town of Battleford is getting ready to start taking entries soon for its annual parade.

This year the event will take place on Friday night, Aug. 9.

Parks and Recreation Manager Jordan Schechtel said the theme is still being decided at this point.

The Parks and Recreation board is going to have another meeting this week to discuss the event.

“We’ll be looking for the same thing as always – floats especially, it’s nice to see floats, ones that are all decorated,” Schechtel said. “But really, any kind of entries are appreciated. Businesses, groups, bands, anything like that is really good.”

He noted the town would also like to see more musical entries, including choirs, for the festivities.

“Music is really nice at parades, because it just adds some more atmosphere and everything,” Schechtel said.

The route is likely expected to stay the same as last year, heading through the downtown area.

“It’s something we’ll be talking about at the upcoming [meeting], but I foresee it being exactly the same,” Schechtel said.

He encourages people to step up and submit their entries starting in the next couple of weeks.

“We’re really appreciative of everybody that enters,” Schechtel said. “Hopefully, we get as many entries as possible.”
