North Battleford annual flushing underway May 6

May 2, 2024 | 3:45 PM

Beginning Monday, North Battleford residents will see the “Water Main Flushing” signs around town as the annual “unidirectional water line flushing process” begins.

According to a news release, the flushing helps to ensure lines work and the areas impacted in the two-week long process will be “Riverside Park area, south of the railroad tracks as far east as Poundmaker Trail, 105th Street east to Territorial Drive, from 18th Avenue south down to Railway Avenue East, and 100th Street to 104th Street, at 11th Avenue moving south down to Railway Avenue.”

While the cleaning is underway, the city has some tips for residents to help ensure a smooth situation.

  • Before 7 pm, fill bathtubs with water – this can be used for flushing toilets.
  • From 7 pm on, taps should not be used so be sure to have water for cooking, cleaning and drinking.
  • Turn off water and appliances that use water then restart once flushing is done.
  • If the water is cloudy, be sure to run the outside tap for 10 minutes.

As the flushing is happening, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., those in residential areas will be able to use water as normal, meanwhile commercial spaces are being contacted about their situations.

According to the release, should people use their water during the unidirectional flushing period, it “can result in stained laundry, plugged filters, and can also damage water heaters.”

Meanwhile, for those with medical conditions that “use medical equipment requiring continuous water supply” or wish for more information, call City Hall at 306-445-1700.
