Twin Rivers Curling Club is sweeping up accolades and turning heads thanks to being named CurlSask 2024 Club of the Year.

“It feels good to work hard at something and then get paid off for that,” said Brandon Hall, manager of Twin Rivers of their success.

“As the manager, as the board, as the volunteers – we have a ton of good volunteers that absolutely make a huge difference to the club.”

The award goes to a club that demonstrates best practices, excellent social media presence, creates a positive and welcoming community, “strives for excellence in all club operations” and at minimum, grew 20 per cent from the last season.

The local club added nearly 100 new members.

“I think times have changed and I think the focus of curlers have changed, we’ve been able to figure out what that is and adapt to it and be innovative in what we’re doing,” he said.

“I think that’s definitely the biggest factor is recognizing what the new generation of curlers might want, while still accommodating some that have been here for a long time.”

The club will get the award in early June and accompanying it will be an on-ice banner for the rink. All will be celebrated during the annual Steak and Lobster Fundraising Dinner on Thurs., June. 20.

Leagues like the FUNN Dodge Social League have gained the club has been a major driver of the club’s growth.

“That’s definitely our most popular league at the moment, it’s kind of spread like wildfire,” said Hall, noting the players in the league are now expanding into others.

“The social league has been kind of the gift that keeps on giving.”

Twin River’s success with their methods has gained some attention from others.

“I’ve had a few clubs as far as Ontario and stuff phoning to find out exactly how we went about it because it obviously gained some traction around in the curling world,” he said.

Hall has also been asked to speak at CurlSask Business of Curling events.

“Those events are for curling clubs to come together and share ideas and what’s working and what isn’t working.”

Hall believes that has been the secret.

“Just keep focusing on what people want and making sure…we have something for everyone,” he said.
