13U BVC Impact take provincial silver in Warman

The Battlefords Volleyball Club’s 13U Team Impact is coming off a silver medal showing to cap their season at provincials in Warman.

Playing seven matches total at the weekend tournament, the Impact showed resiliency on their road to the podium, bouncing back from three-set defeats to Saskatoon’s Huskie Premier team (25-23, 13-25, 11-15), and Watrous Volleyball Club (16-25, 25-16, 14-16) in a big way, to rattle off four consecutive straight-sets victories of their own.

The team first bested Saskatoon’s JVCV Black (25-15, 25-16), followed by another decisive win over Thunder Creek Volleyball Club (25-14, 25-12), heading into the playoff rounds.

With the lights the brightest, the team continued their roll with a straight sets win over the Humboldt Chaos (25-22, 25-15) in the quarterfinals, and Saskatoon’s Lightning Bolts (25-13, 25-6) in the semis, to advance to the provincial finals against a familiar foe in Saskatoon’s Huskie Premier team.

While the Huskies would take the gold (25-14, 25-22), the BVC Impact did earn the silver – finishing second overall out of 28 teams at the provincial tournament – to build on third and fourth-place finishes at their previous Sask Cup appearances earlier in the year.

“The girls played with a lot of passion and had a ton of fun throughout the weekend which led them to a proud silver medal finish,” coach of the team, Britt Danberg said. “They were eager to learn, worked hard every practice and played even harder. This group of girls was dedicated and passionate about volleyball, which makes it pretty easy as a coach.”

Entering the year as a veteran 13U team, with all but a single player from this year’s roster set to age out to the next level next season, Danberg said this year’s silver medal marks just the beginning of what’s possible for the group moving forward.

“I look forward to watching the girls continue to develop in their volleyball careers in the years to come,” she said. “It was an honour to be given the opportunity to coach this amazing group of 10 young ladies and I wish them nothing but the best in their bright futures.”
