Best Greenhouse: Greenpark Greenhouse
Set within a farm, three buildings work botanical magic. Inside, a cornucopia of floral and vegetable marvels burst forth in such a way as to envy Author Frances Hodgson Burnett and her visions for her Secret Garden.
“We sell annuals, vegetables, herbs, shrubs, perennials, strawberries, tomato baskets, cucumber baskets and we make up our own hanging flower baskets. We are the distributor of Equinox self watering planters and always have a good selection of planters on hand,” said Janice Jamieson of owner of Greenpark Greenhouse.
The life-long gardener has always had a passion for the mysterious flora world and working with people.
“It’s so rewarding,” she said, noting they are now instilling that love of all things delicate and fragile into the next generation of their family.
At the time the greenhouse, centrally located between Turtle Lake, Jackfish Lake and surrounding areas, began in 2011, their first grandchild was two-years-old and since then, nine more have followed.
“They all have a hand in it at some point in time.”
The opening day will be Weds., May. 1 and they will remain open while supplies last. The business, which accepts cash, cheque or e-transfer, has since developed a reputation for having healthy plants and their friendly and knowledgeable staff are available for whatever their customers need. Jamieson explained that her husband Cliff created a beautiful yard made up of old machinery and self-watering planters scattered throughout. That yard has since caught the attention of customers.
“Two ladies said, ‘You know, if we could sit and have a cup of tea and then just enjoy your yard, that would be just beautiful,’” said Jamieson.
Now the greenhouse, is looking forward to a new season of new faces, returning customers and as always, fresh blossoms and delicious produce.
“They are simple little greenhouses, but with healthy plants.”
