City plans Community Clean up Week in North Battleford

Apr 9, 2024 | 12:09 PM

Residents in North Battleford can show their civic pride later this month and volunteer to take part in Community Clean-up Week.

The Clean-up week will run from April 20 to 26 this year.

City Parks and Recreation Director Cheryl DeNeire noted while Earth Day falls on April 22, the city decided to hold a full week for its clean-up project, to make it easier for people to fit it into their schedules.

Starting April 15, people can come to City Hall and register and pick up their clean-up supplies, including bags and gloves, to get ready. They can also call City Hall to register.

The city will provide some suggested location options for garbage bags and drop-off points. People can also request a certain location to do their clean-up.

After people finish cleaning up an area, the city’s parks and recreation or operations department staff will pick up the bags.

City Manager Randy Patrick invites people to clean-up whenever they can that week.

“If someone wants to do it on the weekend, come on down and pick up the [items], and let us know where you are going to go and do it when you can,” he said.

Mayor David Gillan noted that people should leave their trash collection bags near the road, not on the road.

He reminds people to stay off the road when they are collecting the garbage to be safe.

“Safety first,” he said. “Wear proper footwear, [and] proper gloves.”

The city is also encouraging people to wear a brightly-coloured top, coat or vest that can be easily seen when doing their clean up.

If they see a needle, they are asked not to pick it up, and instead call 306-445-9433 or 306-441-8013.
