Batter’s up.

The second annual One-Day Baseball Camp, hosted by the Battlefords Immigration Resource Centre, will be taking place Sat., Mar. 16 from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., at the NorthWest Field House.

Dean Dimmick, a volunteer coach said last year was a success and brought out children as young as four and adults in their 30s.

“It was kind of cool that the interest…in the game and kind of seeing what it’s all about,” he said.

The event is free and open to anyone. Over the two hours, the participants will learn the basics of catching and throwing along with a chance to spend some time learning to hit. They also hope to play a couple of innings.

“Just to get the basics of the game and some of those skills that they picked up on.”

Last year they had over 20 players come out and Dimmick said they’re hoping for the same.

“It was kind of unique and it was a cool experience,” he said.

To keep things interesting, the players will be split into three groups, and each will take turns at different stations.

“Just to keep things fresh and active and keep everyone interested and busy,” Dimmick said.

While the camp may only be an introduction to the sport, often dubbed “America’s favourite pastime,” it excites Dimmick to teach others about the game he has a passion for.

“It’s unique to be able to introduce a game that we maybe take for granted and where a lot of people maybe have never seen, never heard of.”
