Sharks prepare for next round after sweeping Wildcats

Mar 11, 2024 | 1:45 PM

As quickly as it started, the first round of the playoffs wrapped up for the Battlefords AAA Sharks after two close wins over the Swift Current Wildcats.

Game one happened on Saturday at the Battleford Arena where the Sharks scored their only two goals of the game in the second period, from Anneka Aspaas and Greir Slabaida.

While Evangeline Hill scored shorthanded in the third period to bring the Wildcats to within one, Cypress Classen stood her ground in goal, to preserve a 2-1 win.

In Game two on Sunday, the Wildcats came firing on all ends, putting 42 shots on goal but could only muster one marker. All three goals came in the first period as the Sharks, once again, were victorious 2-1.

Anneka Aspass and Cambree Legge had the goals for the Sharks.

The game was also special for Sharks head coach Nolan Horbach, who was recognized as the 2023-24 SFU18AAAHL Coach of the Year.

“With a holistic approach, Nolan is integrating his unique combination of education, skills and coaching experience to uphold the Shark’s Vision Statement, continually providing opportunity for young hockey players to develop into outstanding young women,” the Sharks said in a post on Facebook.

The Sharks are waiting to see who their second-round opponent will be.
