Coming off a 6-4 loss to the division rival Humboldt Broncos Friday night at the ACC, the Battlefords North Stars return to action Saturday evening in Humboldt for the rematch, as the scene shifts locations for night two of the weekend home-and-home.

The North Stars enter play second in the Nutrien Division and fourth overall in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) standings, with a 33-15-5 record through 53 games. With 71 points, the North Stars sit just a single back of the Broncos for third-place, heading into their final three games of the regular season.

With their win last night, the Broncos leapfrogged the North Stars into top spot of the Division and third overall in the league standings. Humboldt is 34-14-4 through 52 games, for 72 points, while holding an extra game in hand on the Battlefords with four still remaining.

The weekend matchup was hyped as a star-studded affair, with elite players on both sides living up to the billing and then some, on night one.

The Broncos’ top line of Spencer Bell, flanked by captain Cage Newans and Jacob Strizzi combined for four goals and six points, as Bell added to his league-leading goal total with his 42nd of the year, while Strizzi chipped in a pair and Newans had a goal and an assist, in the win.

North Stars’ captain Tanner Gold had a goal and two assists to lead the comeback effort for his team, while Ben Portner notched a goal and an assist in his return to the lineup off a two-game absence due to illness. League scoring leader, Kian Bell was also lethal throughout, with another goal and an assist, having now registered 88 points (34 goals, 54 assists) in just 39 games this season.

Saturday’s game will be available on 1050 CJNB, with the Ultra Print Pregame Show at 6:30 p.m. and puck drop to follow at 7 p.m. on the NAPA Auto Parts North Stars Broadcast.
