“We don’t use tax papers, we just take the people’s forms and we put it into a tax program that the CRA provides for us, and we send it through the computer to the CRA,” she said.

The income amounts vary based on how many people are in the household. One person is $35,000 or less, two people is $45,000, three people is $47,500 and the list continues to more than five people.

March will be by appointment only Monday to Wednesday at the Food Bank, between 1 and 3 p.m., while Thursday will be walk-in from 1 to 3 p.m. April will be walk-in only and this year, they are expecting roughly 400 people.

“We see a lot of people on fixed incomes coming in, so we’re happy to help,” said Katerynych.

Once tax season is over, the organization will continue to have a dedicated day until Christmas.

“It’s a program that we have and it’s pretty much year-round,” said Katerynych.

The one thing the food bank does not do is keep anyone’s information.

“Once we file people’s taxes, everything is deleted from our system,” she said. “The paperwork that they get, they need to hang onto.”

In North Battleford, the Battlefords Indian and Metis Friendship Centre, Keyanow Child and Family Centre Inc., are also providing free clinics.

Meanwhile, the BDFRC is getting many calls.

“We just want to remind people to bring all of their information with them and if they think they’re expecting something else, to just wait for that to come in,” she said.
