Four provinces confirm measles cases as Sask. Health encourages up-to-date vaccination
Seventeen cases of measles have been confirmed in Quebec, Ontario, Saskatchewan and British Columbia — more than half of those in the Montreal area, while one Ontario case has been linked to a high school.
Saskatchewan’s case was reported in Saskatoon in January and according to the health authority, it was acquired during international travel.
The Ministry of Health has not confirmed if other cases have been detected since but in an e-mail statement to paNOW, said residents are at very low risk of catching measles if they have received two doses of a measles-containing vaccine or were infected in the past.
“In Saskatchewan, the measles vaccine is offered as part of the province’s free routine childhood immunizations. People are urged to ensure that their vaccines are up to date, especially before travelling,” the statement reads.
