A former Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra conductor is now making a name for himself as a popular children’s entertainer.

Eric Paetkau will bring his zany show Mr. Snotsense’s World of Fun to the Dekker Centre’s Lawrence Hall on March 23.

Families may know the singer-songwriter Mr. Snotsense from his kids’ YouTube station.

Paetkau will come to North Battleford with songs, stories and humour to keep children entertained during his afternoon performance here.

“As my name suggests, there’s a lot of nonsense, a lot of silliness,” he said with a laugh. “I’m a musician – a guitarist and singer, and I have a lot of silly songs. There’s a lot of audience engagement and I have a lot of action songs, with kids jumping up and down, and their parents — they seem to like it as well.”

Paetkau also has some video components to his act as well.

“I pepper the show with some videos here and there,” he said.

Paetkau said while his show is aimed at kids ages 3 to 9, really kids of any age would enjoy it. Parents will likely have a fun time too. He might even sneak in a bit of education to his show as well, so kids go away knowing a bit more, along with enjoying some laughs.

Paetkau shares his passion for entertaining youngsters by performing live shows and hosting his weekly online TV show. He is also a children’s author and penned a fun collection of poems, stories and pictures, called The Big Book of Stuff, available through Atmosphere Press.

He came to the art of being a children’s entertainer as someone who simply enjoys making kids laugh and learn. He left the world of symphony and classical music to embark on this new venture since it was something he long had an interest in.

“It was something I’d always loved doing,” he said. “Doing over 30 years in the classical music space was good, but I thought it’s now or never to go and make that change. That’s why I decided to dive in full tilt to that, and I’m having a blast. I’m really enjoying it. I’ve always enjoyed entertaining kids, I think they are so hilarious. I just get a kick out of it.”

Prior to performing in North Battleford, Paetkau will visit Edmonton to give some school shows, and make stops for some projects in Saskatoon as well.

Originally from the Prairies, he is currently based in Toronto, but enjoys coming back to his roots whenever he can. Paetkau’s mother was from Maymont, and he also has cousins in Ruddell in the local area.

“I’ve been to North Battleford many, many times. I’ve always enjoyed it there,” he said, adding he’s looking forward to returning to the area again for his Dekker Centre show.
