Saskatchewan TheatreFest lineup announced

The Saskatchewan TheatreFest is kicking off next month in the Battlefords. Tickets are on sale now at the Dekker Centre .

Here is the full lineup of shows: An Inspector Calls (the Battlefords Community Players) runs April 21, Looking for Norm Foster (Cochin Community Players) April 22, Dogbarked (Odyssey Productions Prince Albert) April 23; Here on the Flight Path (Melfort Amateur Dramatics) April 24, Agnes of God (Yorkton Paper Bag Players) April 25, The Tin Woman (Last Mountain Theatre Company) April 26, and wrapping up the event is Spirit Control (Moose Jaw Community Players) on April 27.

The Battlefords Community Players is currently performing An Inspector Calls, leading up to its Festival show.

“They very much enjoyed it,” said Donna Challis, BCP executive producer and chair of the festival committee, on the audience’s response. “It’s a very traditional [piece].”

The cast is formally attired for the story that’s set in England in 1910.

“It was very well received by the audience last night,” Challis said. “They went out of there saying: ‘That was really good.’ So, we’re kind of excited about it.”

The TheatreFest shows will run the gamut, from high drama to comedy.

Agnes of God, performed by the Yorkton Paper Bag Players, is probably the most serious piece in the list of shows running for the event.

Challis encourages people to either see a couple shows or, if they can, purchase a package deal to take in all the shows.

At the end of the last show, the judges will select the provincial award winners from the week’s best performances.

“They are putting forward their best foot,” Challis said of all the actors’ efforts. “They are all eager to be here, which is really nice to see.”

The last time TheatreFest was hosted in the Battlefords was in 2017, so Challis is looking forward to it.

“This is really coming back with a bang,” she said. “It’s a really good opportunity to see a very big variety of community theatre.”
