North Stars look for quick bounce back on night two versus Mustangs
Just a night after falling 4-3 in their first of back-to-backs with the Melfort Mustangs this weekend, the Battlefords North Stars return to action at the Access Communications Centre Saturday, looking to avenge the loss and respond quickly with another critical two points up for grabs in the rematch.
The stakes are high for the North Stars heading into play, after Melfort leapfrogged them for second overall in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) standings with Friday’s win.
With just five games to go in their regular season schedule, the Stars have a chance to retake second with a victory of their own, as the team desperately aims to snap a four-game skid and avoid a season series sweep, as Melfort has taken each of the first three games between the two sides this year.
The North Stars enter play first in the Nutrien Division and third overall in the SJHL standings with a 33-14-4 record through 51 games. However, due to their struggles of late with just four wins in their last 10, the Battlefords now sit not only a point back of Melfort, but just two ahead of fourth-place Humboldt, who hold a game in-hand.
