Local 10-year-olds perform for TeleMiracle, raise nearly 10 times their original goal

Telemiracle 48 was this past weekend and raised over $6 million for the Kinsmen Foundation.

Of that money raised, which was announced during the annual telethon, two local 10-year-olds played a big role, including performing on the live broadcast.

Best friends Paisley Rolheiser and Nikki Trecartin, both of whom are from Melfort, sang You Belong With Me by Taylor Swift and were able to donate nearly 10 times their original goal.

“It was really cool watching ourselves on TV and raising money for TeleMiracle and people in need… we would love to do it again,” said the girls.

“Our family and parents gave so generously to us, a special shoutout to our grandparents that donated, we love you! We also want to give a big thanks to the Melfort Fire Department for donating $200.”

When first asked about their performance and fundraising efforts by northeastNOW, back in December, the girls’ goal was $300.

By the end though, they nearly added a zero to that number, raking in $2,485.05.

Both girls fundraised beyond their televised performance through bake sales and other live performances, including one on Saturday at Curling Day in Canada. They received most of their funds through an online page that they set up, as well as cash donations.

“The two of us are always happy to help with any fundraising put on by Melfort Kinsmen and Kinettes when we can, and we are thankful to them for their support in our performing,” they added.

TeleMiracle is a 20-hour, annual telethon broadcast live in Saskatchewan.

Meanwhile, the Kinsmen Foundation provides specialized mobility and medical equipment to people and organizations throughout the province, as well as travel assistance for residents in need of vital medical treatment outside their home community.

Other northeast performers for TeleMiracle 48 icluded Ellie Murray & Shelby Murphy from Melfort, Dale Von Bieker from Nipawin, For the Love of Country from Arborfield, and The Futuristic Industries All-Star Choir from Humboldt.

Seventy-five performers participated in the event, which was chosen through an audition process, and were featured throughout the event’s “Countdown to TeleMiracle” pre-show, the Main Show, and the Overnight segment.
