Province gearing up for TeleMiracle 48

Feb 23, 2024 | 12:37 PM

It’s a big weekend in Saskatchewan and, once again, you are a part of the magic.

The annual TeleMiracle fundraiser, the 48th edition, kicks off Saturday evening and runs through Sunday in the province’s capital.

Regina will host the two-day telethon with all of the money staying in Saskatchewan and going to the Kinsmen Foundation. Last year’s event raised well over $5 million.

“You know how many families that actually helps? If you put your mind to it, it’s probably a number that you couldn’t even fathom,” said Dave Baker, who is with the Melfort Kinsmen and has been involved in the fundraiser in recent years.

“Whether you’re doing phones, or you’re doing behind-the-scenes stuff, or you’re raising money during TeleMiracle season before the actual event…it’s just really special to be a part of.”

The Kinsmen Foundation provides a variety of services to people in need, including special needs equipment, travel assistance, and access to life-saving medical treatment.

“Families or people that are in need of anything from a mobile device to transportation to out-of-province care, or in-province care…that’s kind of some of the things that the funds actually go to,” Baker said.

“There’s a bit of a process that everyone has to go through to get money from TeleMiracle, but I can tell you that the people who need it are definitely getting it.”

TeleMiracle 48 starts Saturday at 9 p.m. and runs until Sunday at 5 p.m. and will be streamed online.

“Just ring those phones, every dollar counts and every dollar matters let’s put it that way.”
