State of the City Address coming up in April

The City of North Battleford is getting ready to hold its annual State of the City Address.

The luncheon event will take place at the Dekker Centre from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on April 3.

Tickets are available at City Hall, or online at www.cityofnb.ca

Mayor David Gillan plans to discuss community safety and wellbeing, regional partnerships, economic development, and some major projects the city is involved in and is planning ahead.

“I like the timing of it because we are going to have the CSI [Crime Severity Index] Conference in Saskatoon [in February], and hopefully we’ll have lots to say about that in the State of the City,” he said. “The provincial budget will be out by then as well, and hopefully we find some good news in there.”

Gillan notes he is hopeful the province’s budget includes some funding for a new campus for North West College in the Battlefords.

He adds people attending the event should find his talk informative, similar to last year.

“This is the last State of the City [Address] for this council, [as] this is an election year,” Gillan said. “I think it will be an interesting luncheon and speech.”

People attending the event will have a chance to ask questions following the mayor’s remarks.

Any profits from ticket sales will be donated to the Battlefords District Food and Resource Centre.

The city notes a maximum number of 200 tickets will be available for the event, so encourages people to purchase their tickets early if they hope to attend.
