Free fishing returns for Family Day long weekend
One of Saskatchewan’s popular pastimes is free to enjoy this long weekend.
Free Fishing Weekend allows residents and visitors to angle on Saskatchewan’s public waters, except for national parks, without a license.
Aside from the ability to fish without a license, all angling and limits and other sport fishing requirements remain in effect including being aware of lake-specific rules and regulations, ensuring that all trash and litter is removed from the lake, and that all equipment used is cleaned, drained, and dried to reduce the risk of spreading aquatic invasive species, even when it’s cold outside.
“Free Fishing Weekend is an excellent time to try winter fishing for the first time, or for experienced anglers to bring friends and family and show them the ropes – or reels, in this case,” said Christine Tell, Saskatchewan’s Environment Minister.
