North Stars bounce back for 4-1 win at Notre Dame
The Battlefords North Stars got back in the win column Friday night in Wilcox, taking home a 4-1 victory over the Notre Dame Hounds at the Duncan McNeil Arena.
North Stars’ forward Ben Portner scored a goal and an assist to extend his point streak to 10 straight, while Rylan Williams and Brayden Sinclair added a goal each in the second, and Evan Waldie put the game away in the third on a penalty shot.
Logan Cunningham was rock solid stopping 34 of 35 Hounds’ shots in the win, while Notre Dame’s Spencer Boros also made some big saves early to keep his team in the game through much of the night.
After Hounds’ forward, DJ Freigang opened the scoring midway through the first, Portner’s 24th of the year tied the score on a one-timer set up by Alex Izyk. Portner’s first of two points on the night, with the performance he becomes just the fourth player to hit the 60-point mark in the SJHL this season.
