Pink Shirt Day campaign kicks off Feb. 16 in the Battlefords

BGC Battlefords and Discovery Co-operative Ltd., are once again helping to spread the message of kindness with their annual Pink Shirt Day Fundraiser.

“This year’s fundraiser offers two different ways for our community members to get involved,” said Nicole Combres, executive director for BGC Battlefords.

She explained that along with spreading the main message of anti-bullying, they also want to put a focus on mental health and wellbeing, and they are excited to join forces once more.

This year, people have the option to contribute either through a point-of-sale campaign or through their bellies – that is, they can purchase sugar cookies decorated as pink shirts.

The point-of-sale campaign will be held at the Discovery Co-operation locations from Feb. 16 to Pink Shirt Day on Feb. 28.

“You can purchase your cute little pink paper shirts paper for $2 each and so, although $2 may not seem like a lot of money, it definitely all adds up and makes an incredible difference here at the club,” she said of the little paper shirts that will be put up on the walls of different businesses.

“All of the funds raised through the point-of-sale campaign comes back to us here at BGC Battlefords and it allows us to provide the programming and services that we do each and every year,” said Combres.

The cookies, meanwhile, are currently on pre-order for $2.50 apiece and they’re looking forward to seeing the orders come in. They’ve already begun.

“We’re really grateful for the businesses that are stepping up and purchasing cookies for their employees and even challenging other businesses to get even more people involved in the annual fundraiser,” she said.

There isn’t an actual goal being set as the organization wants to focus on raising funds to help continue to provide support for the programs and services offered to the community’s children, youth and their families along with spreading the day’s message.

“It really is about being kind to one another and just lifting each other up and being each other’s advocates and support systems.”
