Northern Sask. teachers hosting rallies on second day of rotating strikes

Feb 7, 2024 | 7:48 AM

Thousands of students will not be in class on Wednesday as another round of rotating teachers’ strikes hits Saskatchewan schools.

This follows the first round of rotating strikes last week that affected the Saskatchewan River Public School Division, Prince Albert Catholic School Division, Living Sky and Horizon School Divisions.

Wednesday’s strikes involve schools in Saskatoon, Warman, Creighton and the Northern Lights School Division.

Rallies are scheduled to take place throughout these divisions on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Northern Area Teachers Association will be holding demonstrations at the following locations.

– Parking lot near Beauval General Store

– Mistasinihk Place, La Ronge

– Cumberland House Health Centre

– Tim Hortons/Northern Store, Buffalo Narrows

– Pinehouse Post Office

– Green Lake Communications Radio

– La Loche Friendship Centre

– Sandy Bay Catholic Church

The strike will involve around 4,300 teachers and will affect classes for roughly 65,000 students.

The Saskatchewan Teachers Federation (STF) will also withdraw noon-hour supervision on Thursday across the province.

Saskatchewan’s Ministry of Education continues to say they’re not budging on its stance regarding teacher salaries and class complexities despite the strikes.
