A section of road near the downtown area in North Battleford was closed for a short period Tuesday morning following a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of 13 Avenue and 100 Street.

The city reported emergency services personnel responded and occupants of the vehicles were treated for minor injuries.

Due to the number of accidents over the last 24 hours, the City of North Battleford’s director of protective services is reminding the travelling public that conditions are unsafe for driving at increased speeds due to slippery road conditions.

“Motorists should allow additional time for braking and should provide a safe distance between their vehicle and the vehicle in front of them,” the city said.

According to first responders, the recent snowfall the area experienced covered up already-icy conditions. Now that the plows are out clearing snow, it’s exposing the icy patches.

“Despite snow clearing and sanding efforts being underway from roadways crews, the conditions are still hazardous,” the city said. “Drivers should exercise caution, drive slower than normal, and give themselves lots of space to brake.
