Delaney Cheyne has spent a lifetime twirling, flipping and stretching. Now she’ll have the chance to share her love of dance with the province for a worthy cause.

“I’m preparing my acro solo for TeleMiracle,” said the 19-year-old who studies and teaches at Dance Connection.

Cheyne will pre-record for the show tomorrow in Saskatoon.

“Every year, we always have at least one person from our studio on and perform on there, so this year, they decided it should be me,” she said.

“I’m really happy to be part of making a change.”

The teen dancer has been studying at the studio for 16 years and developed her own choreography for the 48th annual show.

“It took me like eight months to do it ‘cause it was my first time ever choreographing my own thing,” she said, noting she had a lot of mind blocks and challenges.

“Acro’s basically just tricks – flexibility, flips, all that fun stuff.”

Cheyne said of all the dance disciplines, acro was the one that fit her the best. She explained she has always loved stretching and making herself flexible.

“It’s just, I think my strong suit and something I’m comfortable in,” she said.

When she arrives on set, the studio crew will shoot her routine, which is roughly 2:15 minutes long, over a half hour time slot.

“I’m pretty sure they’ll do a few takes so they can get different angles and stuff,” she said.

The love of performing arts came to the teen early and once she was offered the chance to twirl, she never let go.

“I would take my dances home as a kid and practice them every morning before school, and it just kept growing and growing and now I’m graduated but I’m still here and I’m still coming here every day to practice and teach and all of that.”

Meanwhile, in the future, she plans to attend a university dance program and study business so that she might one day open her own studio. For now though, Cheyne remains focused on her students and preparing for her upcoming performance. Throughout her TeleMiracle journey, she and the studio began fundraising just before Christmas with dress-up dance days, movie nights, gift basket raffle and donations from family and friends. Ultimately, she hopes to make it to at least the $1,000 mark.

“I’m just eager to show my hard work in front of an audience and see it air, also for fundraising I hope to raise lots,” she said.

“I think I’m at about $700 now.”

TeleMiracle 48 will air on February 24-25 in Regina to raise money for the Kinsmen Foundation.
