Light up the Night Twinkle Tour winners announced

Dec 17, 2023 | 2:00 PM

It was an emotional time for North Battleford resident Jennifer Hrynewich Saturday when the winners were announced for the Light up the Night Twinkle Tour competition, organized by the City of North Battleford and CJNB.

Hrynewich came in top place for both the People’s Choice Award and the Best House Award for her beautifully decorated home on 97 Street at the corner of 19 Avenue.

For the People’s Choice award, she will take home a $250 gift card from Discovery Co-op, courtesy of the City of North Battleford, and two tickets to the Blake Shelton Concert at the SaskTel Centre in Saskatoon in March, courtesy of Pattison Media.

Hrynewich credits her boyfriend, Ken Smith, for doing all the work decorating her home.

“I just entered [the competition] thinking I would put it on the map,” she said. “I’m excited. It’s more for everybody to see the lights and to spread a little bit of Christmas cheer.”

Hrynewich said Smith spent many hours putting the display together, trying to get the perfect look.

Winning the tickets to see the Blake Shelton concert was a bonus for Hrynewich who said she is a big Country music fan.

The top spot for the Best Block went to Dunning Crescent, and the Best Business Award was announced as Rayburn Dental Studio at 1701 100 St.

All the winners will receive a trophy, and the best block will receive a Twinkle Tour street sign.

During the announcement, there was a festive gathering at InnovationPlex with free hot chocolate and sugar cookies being handed out.

The RCMP collected donations for the Cram a Cruiser evert to benefit the Miwasin Kikinaw homeless shelter in North Battleford. The fire department was also on hand keeping a warm blaze going outside at Rotary Plaza.

At the Battlefords Co-op Aquatic Centre, the first 500 people were admitted free for the Swim with Santa event. Santa and Mrs. Claus spent the afternoon swimming and visiting the water slide in full costume for a bit of holiday fun.
