Members’ Exhibition on now at North Battleford’s Chapel Gallery

The Chapel Gallery in North Battleford is alive with colour and form these days as the Galleries Members’ Exhibition takes over the light-infused space.

About 24 artists are showcasing their work – about 60 pieces – in this show that runs until Jan. 7, 2024.

During the reception Thursday, University of Saskatchewan art instructor and professional artist Grant McConnell gave a walking talk discussing the pieces being shown.

Leah Garven, the Curator and Manager of Galleries for the City of North Battleford, said the annual exhibition is a terrific chance for the artists to display a small collection of their work.

“Artists really value this opportunity to show their work,” she said. “It’s an assortment. We have some fibre artists, silk painting, embroidery, quilting, some watercolour, and acrylic paintings. I’m excited to see how the artists have advanced their skill set and how they explored their pieces.”

One of the pieces on display is artist Paul Constable’s “Black Jack,” an installation of a Jack Fish created in part with old car pieces to show how oil and contaminants pollute the rivers and lakes.

Some of the other highlights include two unique puppet vignettes based on stories from characters in history, legends, and fables by Sherron Burns and a life-sized horse installation made of steel by Kevin Quinlan.
