Silvernagle looks strong at Nutrien Ag Showdown

Dec 8, 2023 | 7:30 AM

The Robyn Silvernagle rink puts their perfect 2-0 record on the line Friday morning at the Nutrien Ag Solutions Western Showdown happening in Swift Current.

The defending provincial champions who represent the Twin Rivers Curling Club of North Battleford square off against Calgary’s Kayla Shrlik at 9:00 am, looking to secure top spot in Pool E.

The team consisting of Kara Thevenot (lead) Chaelynn Kitz (second) and (third stone) Kelly Schafer opened the star-studded showdown with a 6-4 extra-end win over Michele Jaeggi of Switzerland on Wednesday while knocking off Minnesota’s Tabitha Peterson 7-4 on Thursday.

The popular foursome has already secured a birth at this year’s Viterra Scotties Provincial Curling Championship in Tisdale, Jan. 17-24 with the winner advancing to the Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Calgary in February.

Seven other rinks have also qualified for the Viterra Scotties including perennial favourite Sherry Anderson of Saskatoon, Penny Barker of Moose Jaw and Nancy Martin of Martensville.

The Silvernagle rink plays just one game Friday before finishing up their round-robin on Saturday with a 2:30 match-up against Japan’s Satsuki Fujisawa. The championship game is slated for Sunday evening.
