Storyteller Lorer to give talk at North Battleford Library

Dec 7, 2023 | 3:00 PM

Saskatoon storyteller and poet Danica Lorer is bringing her show to North Battleford Library this week.

The event, called “The Season to Sparkle: Songs and Stories,” will be held at the library theatre starting at 7 p.m. on Friday.

“I’m a storyteller, a writer, a performer – all of those things,” Lorer told battlefordsNOW. “I’ve been doing it for about over 25 years. It’s for people of all ages.”

She will share many of her own stories during her visit here.

Lorer notes her grandparents used to live in North Battleford so she will also include a special story she has of some of her memories of North Battleford from her time here with family.

She has recently been touring many communities in Saskatchewan and is looking forward to coming to North Battleford.

“I’ll often get families who come to [events], people with children,” she said. “I do a lot of performances for seniors as well. I’m just happy with whoever shows up.”

Lorer added storytelling is an art form that is really for everyone, young and old alike.

“It doesn’t have an age boundary,” she said. “When we’re thinking about the songs and stories of the season, what I’ll be presenting tomorrow night will be all original pieces, but we just might sing a couple of sing-a-long songs as well at the end just to get people involved.”

North Battleford Library’s Head Librarian Colin Evans said it’s a treat to have Lorer come here for a talk.

“It’s very exciting,” he said. “She knows the Battlefords well and is well regarded as a children’s author. I thought it would be a good time around the holidays when people are coming together as family and possibly sharing stories. It would nice to have someone doing storytelling activities.”
