Man facing manslaughter charge applying for bail

A man charged with manslaughter is applying for bail at North Battleford Provincial Court.

Clarence Buck, 29, from North Battleford, is faces a manslaughter charge in connection with the death of Richard Buck.

He was originally charged with aggravated assault. The charge was upgraded to manslaughter in July.

Clarence Buck and the victim are related.

The accused who is in custody appeared in court via video link.

Crown prosecutor Suzanne Reid is opposed to Buck’s release.

Judge Kevin Hill adjourned the show cause hearing to be continued on Dec. 11 at 11 a.m. as the accused still needs to confirm an address where he could stay if released.

Police previously stated, on July 6 at about 1 a.m., Battlefords RCMP received a report of an assault at a home in Meota. As a result of the incident, one man was taken to hospital with serious injuries following an altercation with another man. Two days later, Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes Unit was advised the victim, 56-year-old Richard Buck, died from his injuries.
