City gets ready for food, donation drive for Humane Society

Nov 28, 2023 | 5:10 PM

The City of North Battleford hopes people put the community’s animals on their wish lists this Christmas season.

Director of Protective Services Lindsay Holm announced the Pack the Patrol Unit will be back again for the holidays. All contributions will benefit the Battlefords Humane Society.

This year, Community Safety Officers (CSOs) and Battlefords Citizens on Patrol will help with the Humane Society volunteers and staff at five area businesses to collect donations.

People can drop off donations of pet food as well as pet toys and supplies at the following locations: Walmart, No Frills, PetValu, Canadian Tire and Giant Tiger from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 1.

“This is a program they have done for quite a few years,” Holm said. “We’re trying to encourage anybody on that date to make a donation that will help out the animal shelter with food, toys or collars and leashes for dogs and cats that are housed at the shelter.”

Last year about $1,800 and 4,400 pounds of pet food was raised.

“I think it’s a great initiative. Last year we were very successful with it. It was a huge amount, and I thank the community for that,” Holm said. “I’m hoping they [the Humane Society] are going to get that kind of support again this year.”
