Kinsmen TeleMiracle gives $50,000 to BUH Foundation Pyxis campaign

The Kinsmen Telemiracle Foundation is giving a big boost to the Battlefords Union Hospital (BUH) Foundation by donating a hefty $50,000 to the Medication Matters campaign.

Funds raised will help purchase Pyxis MedStations for the various departments in the hospital. These stations are described as automated medication-dispensing units that help improve the efficiency, effectiveness and safety of the hospital’s medication delivery to patients.

Richard Kies, Kinsmen TeleMiracle Foundation executive director, noted funds were raised through Telemiracle donors over the years.

“This is from the proceeds of Telemiracle,” he said. “Thanks to our Telemiracle donors, we’ll make this investment back into healthcare in North Battleford… We know that the Battlefords Union Hospital Foundation has been fundraising for these new Pyxis Med Stations, so we’re really happy to be part of that campaign.”

Hospital Foundations like the BUH’s can apply to the Kinsmen Foundation for funding. If the amount is for $50,000 or more it is decided at the fiscal year-end meeting in June.

“In June of this year the board decided they wanted to fund this project, so then we were able to do this today with this presentation,” Kies said.

Medication Matters is the largest capital campaign taken on by the BUH Foundation to date, with a fundraising goal of $916,000.

BUH Foundation Executive Director Leanne Ducommun noted the support from the Kinsmen Telemiracle Foundation will help the foundation get closer to reaching its goal.

“We are so extremely grateful for the Kinsmen Telemiracle for this grant donation we received towards our Pyxis Medication Matters capital campaign,” she said. “This being our largest capital campaign, this kind of donation will have a significant impact on the campaign itself. The Pyxis MedStations are going to be implemented in every department at Battlefords Union Hospital.”

She noted among the benefits of the Pyxis MedStation, because it increases the efficiency of medication delivery, it also allows healthcare workers to have more time to spend at patients’ bedsides “where it matters most.”

The BUH Foundation launched this capital campaign early on in the year with a fundraising target of two years.

“The community and our donors have been a massive support, and we’re very close to actually reaching our goal,” Ducommun said. “We are extremely proud of that, and are hoping to make an announcement in the very near future.”
