Nov 27, 2023 | 4:58 PM

The preliminary hearing for a 47-year-old North Battleford man facing a charge in the death of his mother wrapped up last week at North Battleford Provincial Court.

Walter Geering, who is in custody, is charged with second-degree murder in the case.

During the preliminary inquiry the judge determines if there is sufficient evidence for trial.

Geering’s case has now been committed for a jury trial at the Court of King’s Bench in Battleford with the date still to be set.

According to the RCMP, police responded after receiving a report on June 22, 2022 of an injured individual at a home on 93rd Street in North Battleford. Officers and paramedics found a woman who was declared deceased.

She has since been identified as 72-year-old Beatrice Geering from North Battleford. Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crime Unit confirmed the victim is the mother of the accused.
