RCMP Major Crimes investigating homicide in LLRIB community

Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes are investigating a homicide that happened on the Lac La Ronge Indian Band in the community of Kitsaki.

On Saturday around 1:15a.m., La Ronge RCMP responded to a report of an unresponsive man at a residence in the community.

When they arrived, officers immediately found a deceased man at the scene who has since been identified as 31-year-old Wilfred Ballantyne from Pelican Narrows. His family has been notified and Victim Services has been dispatched to provide support.

As a result of the investigation, police have arrested 22-year-old Mary Bird from La Ronge and have charged her with second-degree murder.

She is scheduled to appear in La Ronge Provincial Court on Monday morning.

RCMP continues to investigate and advises that the increased police presence in the community will continue at this time.

Police are now asking anyone with information about the homicide to contact RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
