Lucky winner picks up trip-for-two to Jamaica in The Great Escape giveaway

She’s the winner!

Shelly Leite, who lives south of Battleford, was the big winner in this year’s The Great Escape! giveaway contest, announced at Q98’s special celebration party held at the Tropical Inn in North Battleford Friday night.

Shelly’s name was picked just before 10 p.m. on Nov. 17.

She was actually a little shocked when her name was picked.

“I can’t believe it,” Shelly said.

Her husband Doug, who will be joining her on the trip, was also thrilled with the news.

“I’m excited,” he said. “Congratulations to my wife.”

The winners will enjoy a free trip to the Riu Ocho Rios resort in Jamaica from Feb. 19 to 26.

The couple had stopped in Jamaica in 2000 while on a cruise. So they were thrilled to be going there for a longer trip this time.

Doug piped up it will be a great time heading to Jamaica.

“When it’s 40-below here, I’ll be down there where it’s 40-above,” he said with a chuckle.

It will be a great way for the couple to beat those winter blues that should be setting in by then, right in the middle of winter.

Also during the evening, Q98 handed out dozens of prizes to attendees who took part in a number of contests to add to the fun of the evening.

Nic Fransoo, program director for Pattison Media, was glad to see the lucky couple be able to head off to Jamaica this winter.

He said it was great to return to the big Great Escape party, with about 200 people attending. For the last couple of years, Q98 held live-on-air Listening Parties instead, so it was fun to head back to hold a big in-person party again for all the finalists this year.
