5A volleyball provincials wraps up day one in P.A.

The 5A high school boys and girls volleyball provincial championships is underway in Prince Albert.

Friday’s competition got underway at noon with the boys playing at Carlton while the girls played their games at both St. Mary and Sask. Polytechnic.

For the boys, Carlton, Swift Current, and Holy Cross from Saskatoon were tied atop Pool A with 2-1 records. LeBoldus from Regina is in fourth at 1-2 while Aden Bowman from Saskatoon finished the day at 0-2.

In Pool B, St. Mary and Winston Knoll from Regina each went undefeated on day one at 3-0 while Estevan was behind them at 1-2. Rounding out the pool was Bethlehem from Saskatoon at 0-2 and Warman finished at 0-3.

The boys continue their provincials at 9:00 a.m. Saturday from both the Carlton CPAC and Red gymnasiums. In the CPAC, Estevan will square off with Bethlehem while in the Red, Holy Cross will matchup with Aden Bowman. The playoff round will begin at 12:45 in either gym.

BOYS RESULTS/SCHEDULE

In the girls tournament, St. Mary and Swift Current both finished on top of Pool A at 3-0 while St. Joseph from Saskatoon was third at 1-2, Saskatoon Tommy Douglas was fourth at 0-2, and in fifth was Campbell from Regina at 0-3.

In Pool B, Holy Cross ended the day in first at 3-0, LeBoldus came second at 2-1, Carlton was in the middle of the pack at 1-1, Weyburn fell short of the podium at 1-2, and in fifth was North Battleford with an 0-3 record.

The girls provincials also get going again at 9:00 a.m. Saturday. Campbell will face Tommy Douglas at Sask. Polytechnic while North Battleford will square off with Carlton at St. Mary. Like the boys, the playoff round will begin at 12:45.
