Margo murder case committed for trial

A court case involving allegations that a man murdered his common law spouse, less than a month after moving into their new home, has been formally committed for trial.

Brian McLeod is also alleged to have assaulted the victim’s daughter and four-month-old grandchild.

The case, which was last spoken to on Nov. 2 at Wynyard Provincial Court, will be tried at Court of King’s Bench in Yorkton. As of Wednesday, no trial dates had been set but will be discussed next week as part of the Nov. 24 pre-trial list.

On Christmas Eve, 2022, police located 51-year-old Sharon Littlewolfe deceased at a home in Margo and her vehicle was missing.

Originally, RCMP were called after a woman and a baby were injured where they were transported to hospital with injuries.

Nearly two hours later, police were called to a rural residence in Tisdale, over 100 kilometres away after a man had been assaulted.

The man told police that another man approached his residence requesting assistance for a stuck vehicle. That was when the complainant was assaulted but was able to restrain the suspect until police arrived.

McLeod, who is from Lloydminster, stands charged with second degree murder, attempted murder, two counts of aggravated assault and possession of property obtained by crime.

Littlewolfe was a mother of three, and a member of Onion Lake Cree Nation. When the family spoke to battlefordsNOW they divulged the daughter was facing surgeries and faked being dead to save her own life. The baby was cut in the attack.

The family member also explained McLeod and Littlewolfe had only been dating for about nine months and had just recently moved to Margo.

The couple stayed in one half of a duplex and Littlewolfe’s daughter moved into the other half with her infant son.

While a preliminary inquiry hearing was initially scheduled to take place last week, the defence instead agreed to commit the case for trial.
