The Battlefords North Stars extended their league-best winning streak to seven straight Monday night in Warman, closing out opening day of the SJHL Showcase with a 5-1 win over the Estevan Bruins.

Four different North Stars chipped in with at least a single goal in the win, as Jackson Allan scored a pair, while Marshall Light, Ben Portner and Rylan Williams added a single apiece.

Alex Izyk assisted on each of the team’s first three goals, while Kian Bell added his seventh multi-point performance in eight games, and Justen Maric shut the door with 30/31 saves to backstop his team to victory.

Light’s third of the season opened the scoring just three minutes into the game to make it 1-0 Battlefords early, followed by Allan’s first of the night and fourth of the year on the power play.

A 2-0 North Stars’ lead at the end of the first, early in the second period Allan’s fifth of the year then expanded the lead further to 3-0, before Bruins’ captain Keagon Little got his team on the scoreboard with their lone goal of the game.

3-1 Battlefords into the second intermission, Portner’s seventh of the campaign, from Hunter Burgeson and Bell, made it 4-1 at the 10-minute mark of the third, before Williams’ dagger to cap the scoring on the night.

For Williams, his seventh of the year also extends his goal streak to four straight, and his point streak to six straight, as #17 continues to rocket his way up the rookie scoring leaders with 15 points through 19 games.

With the victory, the North Stars improve to 13-6-0-1 through 20 games, and with 27 points sit third in the league standings tied with second-place Humboldt, though the Broncos do hold four games in hand.

The North Stars will now get a couple of days off before returning to play Thursday afternoon for their second and final game of the Showcase against the Weyburn Red Wings.

Thursday’s NAPA Auto Parts North Stars Broadcast will be available on 1050 CJNB. The Ultra Print Pregame Show will begin at 1 p.m., with puck drop to follow at 1:30 p.m.
