Over three million menstrual products will soon be handed out across the province.

Laura Ross, Saskatchewan’s Minister Responsible for the Status of Women, was in Prince Albert on Monday where she announced that they’ve received its first shipment from Shoppers Drug Mart, a couple of months after the two partnered to provide free period products.

She told reporters nearly all of the products will be given to the province’s school boards.

“The school boards are selecting the schools that are going to be receiving the shipments. Also, we will be allocating some of the shipments to some of our transition houses,” said Ross.

In total, 16 transition houses will receive shipments of their own. The province has yet to announce which shelters they’re planning to include.

As mentioned by Ross, the school boards will decide where to send supplies. Suzanne Stubbs, the Board Chair of the Prince Albert School Division, explained that every school in her district will be included.

“I’m sure there will be some type of policy so if a school starts to run out, there will be a count, and it’ll be refilled,” she said.

Ecole St. Mary High School, where Monday’s announcement was held, is the first place in the province to receive free products.

“It’ll provide such an improvement in the quality of life for so many young girls,” said Alana Ross, the MLA for Prince Albert Northcote, who couldn’t contain her excitement for having the announcement and the first place to receive a shipment be in P.A.
