North Stars fall 4-1 in Melfort
The Battlefords North Stars fell 4-1 in Melfort Wednesday, to snap their two-game winning streak, in a Mustangs’ victory led by their goaltender James Venne who stopped 29/30 North Stars’ shots to backstop his team to victory.
Zac Somers made it 1-0 Melfort just under six minutes into the first period, scoring his second of the year on a deflection in the mid-slot, in his return to the lineup after missing the last four due to injury.
Following a scoreless second, Hayden Prosofsky then made it 2-0 for the home-side on his first in the SJHL and first of two on the night, followed by a Mathieu Pigeon marker to stretch the lead to 3-0 Melfort just passed the midway mark of the third.
Prosofsky’s second of the game came on a breakaway out of the box to catch a pass in stride, breaking in alone on the goaltender and making no mistake for the 4-0 tally.
