New doctor & plan to update Maude Burke Park on agenda for Melfort council

Oct 16, 2023 | 6:00 AM

Melfort’s city council is expected to approve the first $20,000 bonus under its new recruitment program for physicians.

They’re set to meet on Monday where they’re slated to give the go-ahead for administration to present the funds to Doctor Evan Mah who plans on working in the community for at least two years.

Council approved the recruitment program back in August as the city is one of many in the province that don’t have enough physicians to properly meet the needs of the population.

Dr. Mah plans to provide obstetrical services which focuses on pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. He will also support Melfort’s general surgeon and GP obstetricians with their C-sections.

Council is also slated to discuss whether or not to approve a plan to update the Maude Burke Playground and Spray Park.

This project has been top of mind for multiple years due to its popularity and the desire to make sure it continues to meet the demands of people in the community.

Meanwhile, council will also get an update RCMP on the crime that happened in September.

Their meeting gets underway at 5 p.m.
