RCMP seize over 300 lbs of drugs in June traffic stop near Maidstone

New information released by RCMP shows that a June traffic stop near Maidstone turned out 200 pounds of meth and about 140 pounds of cocaine.

The meth tested as high as 100 per cent pure while the cocaine reached 86 per cent purity levels.

Officers said that combined, the drugs had a value of about $4 million.

The Roving Traffic Unit pulled over a westbound vehicle on Highway 16 on June 1 with two people inside. Further investigation resulted in the discovery of four large bags holding the drugs.

The two men from Edmonton who have been arrested and charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking are Sahilpreet Grewal, 19, and Parminder Singh, 20.

Both will be in Lloydminster Provincial Court on Oct. 16.

“We are incredibly proud of the work of our RCMP officers. It’s the sheer dedication and hard work from units – like our Roving Traffic Unit in this instance – that ensures dangerous drugs are taken off the streets – reaffirming our top priority of keeping the public safe,” said Commanding Officer of the Saskatchewan RCMP, Rhonda Blackmore in a news release.

“This is also another great example of how the RCMP’s work is not limited by our borders and we can pull resources from all provinces to get the job done.”

The investigation involved RCMP from Alberta and Saskatchewan and the complex nature of it was what led to a delay in announcing the seizure, said police.
