North Battleford home destroyed by fire, RCMP investigating possible arson

Sep 13, 2023 | 3:25 PM

An investigation is underway to find the exact cause of a house fire in North Battleford.

The blaze started early in the morning on Sept. 9 with the city’s fire department stating the property, in the 1300 block of 103rd Street, was a total loss.

It was determined the fire was likely the result of arson. Battlefords RCMP are now investigating the incident.

Linda Bomok, the property owner, told battlefordsNOW she is also trying to figure out what happened.

She explained it was being rented out, though she had asked the tenant to move out back in May.

“She was still there, and she said her daughter was gonna rent with her, but her daughter (also) never paid rent,” said Bomok.

Multiple neighbours, who asked to remain anonymous, told battlefordsNOW the property was not well-liked as it caused multiple issues. They explained the home was often occupied by as many as 15-20 people; some would often shout in the street, and yell at neighbours and passersby, which often made it a difficult place to relax when outdoors.

“They weren’t the best (tenants),” said Bomok.

She has plans to rebuild the home. At this time, she doesn’t know when she can start due to the ongoing investigation.

Despite this, Bomok continues to visualize her grand plans for the property.

“If I put $40,000 into this house, it will be a beautiful house,” she said.

This is something the neighbours also said they’re hopeful for.

Meanwhile, RCMP is asking anyone with information on the fire to contact them at 306-446-1720 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222 TIPS (8477).
