North Battleford Downtown BID brings community together with Fall Festival

Downtown North Battleford was alive with the hustle and bustle of music, games, food, and entertainment over the weekend, for the North Battleford Downtown Business Improvement District’s (BID) annual Fall Festival.

Taking place in the heart of the downtown area Saturday, 12th and 13th Avenue to 101st Street, and 13th Ave to 102nd Street were closed for the day, to allow for people to walk the streets and surrounding green spaces as they were transformed into the festival grounds. Central Park also offered live performances of various kinds throughout the day.

Kori Humenny, executive director of the Downtown BID, said it went off without a hitch again this year, despite a small amount of drizzle during the day.

“It went really well, even with the rain, the party still went on,” she said, letting out a smile. “It was packed, it was full, and it was a very successful event.”

The entertainment included activities for the kids such as bouncy castles, face painting, airbrush tattoos, a kid’s crafts table, a fall-themed photo booth, a dunk tank in the park, and more.

For the older crowd, there was also a beer garden, which included some classic turf-style games such as cornhole, ring toss, and a putting green.

In addition to the special fun and games, the Fall Fest also featured a number of local businesses, organizations, and initiatives that moved out to line the street with vendor tables, selling food and various goods, while also highlighting local amenities.

In fact, that local business element harkens back to the core purpose of why the North Battleford BID was formed in the first place back in 2013 – as a way to help revitalize the downtown area and bolster its economic growth, through events that bring the community together and showcase the best of the city.

“That’s the whole point, we obviously want to offer something fun for people to do, but it’s also to showcase some of our local downtown businesses and what they have to offer our community,” Humenny said.

She also added that events like Friday’s Fall Festival are only made possible due to the collective effort of many who take the time to perform, set up vendor booths, donate resources and equipment, and supervise the kid’s events.
